About Attorney David J Berta
David began practicing law over 27 years ago, a practice that to this day continues to place results above all else. Highly motivated, David has represented thousands of clients and tried hundreds of cases, balancing fierce advocacy with a bent on practical results. David realizes and understand that each case is different, and every client is unique with different needs. Clients in Lorain County, Cuyahoga County, Erie County and many other neighboring communities have relied on David to handle their cases with integrity, responsibility, and compassionate candor.
David’s legal background is diverse and full. In addition to handling thousands of divorce, custody, and family law cases, David had the privilege of sitting as an elected judge in the Lorain County Domestic Relations Court, where he decided hundreds of divorce cases and made many rulings on child custody and child support matters. In addition to overseeing domestic relations matters, David handled and decided hundreds of juvenile delinquency cases as well as probate matters, such as estate administration and guardianships. Responsible for a workforce of over 100 people, David helped manage a budget of over 12 million dollars.
David previously has served as corporate counsel for a tech company located in Atlanta, GA and has litigated civil rights cases in both state and federal courts. David also was a member of The Spike and Meckler Law Firm in Elyria, OH prior to Alan Spike’s and Stephen Meckler’s respective retirements.
David is a member of both the Ohio State Bar Association, participating in the bar’s litigation section as well as a member of the Lorain County Bar Association. David is a member and past Exalted Ruler of the Lorain Elks, #1301. David has been married to his wife Dawn for over 15 years and they have a 13-year-old son.
David’s background and experience makes him one of the most experienced and seasoned attorneys in Lorain County. David is quick to offer advice and solve problems in areas such as divorce, custody, family law, probate administration, harassment/discrimination law and other diverse areas that require a tough approach with a thorough understanding.
In the area of divorce David has seen it all, both as a judge and as an attorney. He is familiar with often crafty acts of deception of opposing litigants who attempt to hide assets. David is well versed in the law in areas of parental alienation, abuse, neglect and dependency, division of assets and property, division of pensions and investments, business evaluations, tracing of premarital and inherited assets as well as many other areas. David is prepared to fight the fight until a fair and just outcome is achieved.
David is a graduate of Elyria Open Door Christian High School, the University of Toledo and the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. David has been a tireless advocate since day one of his graduation from law school.
